PS128

What Is It?

PS128 is a specific strain of the lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum, developed in Taiwan. Bacteria that are meant to act on the brain through the gut are called psychobiotics.

What Does the Research Say?

In a small study from Taiwan with 25 Parkinson's patients, the UPDRS Part III improved by about three points after twelve weeks, and quality of life went up (Frontiers in Nutrition 2021). There was no placebo group, and the authors themselves call for further controlled studies.

My Experience

I have been taking PS128 since July 15, 2021, in recent years with some long breaks, and then two capsules of Neurax Biotic Spectrum a day. I can't attribute a clear effect to it, but it fits my approach of strengthening the gut.

Effort and Cost

PS128 is freely available as a supplement. At two capsules a day it costs about 60 euros a month.

My Conclusion

A simple building block for the gut with first positive signs, but without solid proof.
