Pectasol

Modified citrus pectin that slows down an inflammatory protein.

Updated: October 2026

Galacturonic acid, the main building block of pectin

What is it?

Pectasol is a specially processed pectin from citrus fruits. According to the manufacturer, the processing allows it to be absorbed into the blood so that it does not only act in the gut. It binds the protein galectin-3, which is involved in inflammation and in activating the brain's immune cells, the microglia.

What does research say?

Today Parkinson's is also seen as an inflammatory disease of the brain. In experiments with mice lacking galectin-3, the inflammatory response of the microglia in the brain region affected by Parkinson's was much weaker (Frontiers in Pharmacology). However, these experiments were not done with Pectasol itself. There are no studies in people with Parkinson's, and no evidence that symptoms improve.

My experience

I will add my own experience with Pectasol here.

My conclusion

An interesting new approach via inflammation that fits well with other building blocks. A benefit in Parkinson's has not been proven so far.
